Job Description TheraEX Staffing Services is seeking a Physician Assistant Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery for a locum tenens job in Santa Monica, California. Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery - Discipline: Physician Assistant - Start Date: 05/03/2026 - Duration: 28 weeks - 40 hours per week - Shift: 8 hours, days, evenings, nights, on call, rotating - Employment Type: Locum Tenens Physician Assistant – Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery (Locum Tenens) Providence Saint John’s Health Center 2121 Santa Monica Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90404 Assignment Dates: May 2026 – October 2026 Schedule: Full?time preferred; flexible scheduling possible with 3–4 days/week minimum Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday–Friday Call: 1:2 rotation (weekdays 3 PM–7 AM; weekends Friday 3 PM–Monday 7 AM) Call?Back Frequency: Approximately 1–2 times per month EMR: Epic Credentials Required: California PA license, DEA, surgical privileging Position Overview Providence Saint John’s Health Center is seeking an experienced Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant to provide comprehensive surgical and inpatient support within a high?acuity cardiac program. The PA will function across the OR, ICU/step?down, and clinic, all located within the hospital, allowing seamless transitions between surgical assist, rounding, and patient follow?up in a single day. This role requires advanced procedural competency, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to manage complex cardiac patients independently while collaborating closely with surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams. Compensation - Regular / Callback Hours: $180 per hour - 24?Hour Call: $1,565 per shift - Night Call: $520 per night Clinical Responsibilities - OR First Assist for cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgical procedures - Radial and endoscopic vein harvesting (required) - ICU and step?down management, including post?operative monitoring and interventions - Daily rounding on pre? and post?operative patients - Clinic responsibilities for evaluations, follow?ups, and surgical optimization - Interpretation of diagnostics, including EKGs, chest X?rays, labs, and hemodynamic data - Management of advanced cardiac support devices, including ECMO, IABP, and Impella - Call coverage in a 1:2 rotation with another PA, including weekday and weekend call - Respond to call?backs for urgent surgical or inpatient needs Qualifications - Certified Physician Assistant with active California license - 3–5 years of Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery experience strongly preferred - Proficiency in radial and endoscopic vein harvesting - Experience with ECMO, IABP, Impella, and complex post?operative cardiac care - Strong OR assist skills and ability to manage ICU/step?down patients independently - DEA required - Ability to work full?time starting May 2026 (pending privileges) with at least 3–4 days/week availability Practice Environment Providence Saint John’s Health Center is a leading cardiac and surgical institution in Southern California, known for advanced cardiovascular programs, a collaborative surgical team, and integrated clinic?hospital workflows.
